People & Lifestyle

With a laid-back and welcoming vibe, San Ramon’s community-focused events and organizations help foster an inviting and close-knit feel. Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Much of San Ramon’s commercial development is centered on I-680’s intersections with Crow Canyon Road and Bollinger Canyon Road. Crow Canyon Commons has a Sprouts Farmers Market, and restaurants include the luxuriously old-school Italian restaurant Primavera. Further north on I-680, Gianni’s authentic Italian cooking, craft cocktails, and great wines have earned it three Diablo Magazine Food Awards.

Located on Bollinger Canyon Road, City Center Bishop Ranch is a modern upscale shopping center and public square designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano. Bishop Ranch’s numerous stores include independent boutiques and recognizable brands such as Anthropologie, Pottery Barn, West Elm, and Williams-Sonoma. Bishop Ranch also has a variety of international restaurants, a multiplex movie theater, and an ice rink during the winter.

Further west along Bollinger Canyon Road, the mixed-use development of The Marketplace at San Ramon is home to many major employers, restaurants, and retailers. There you’ll find The Hop Yard, a stylish gastropub with over thirty beers on tap and an elevated menu of American pub classics.

Things to Do

Along with being a fantastic place to shop and dine, City Center Bishop Ranch is a community hub that hosts events throughout the year. Named after local Olympic Gold medalist figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, Bishop Ranch’s Holiday Ice Rink opens in November with a festive tree lighting ceremony.

Other Bishop Ranch events include DJ nights at THE LOT, a year-round Saturday morning farmers’ market, and Sunday evening acoustic guitar performances at artisanal tapas and cocktails spot Social Affair. Live music performances and other concerts regularly take place at San Ramon Community Center, located at Central Park. The Community Center also offers a range of art, music, and dance classes. Other amenities here include a children’s playground, sports fields, a splash pad, a skate park, and tennis courts. On Sunday evenings during July and August, the Central Park Amphitheater hosts the Music in the Park summer concert series, as well as food trucks and other refreshments. Over Memorial Day weekend, San Ramon Art, Wind & Kite Festival takes place in Central Park with kite-flying demonstrations and hot air balloon rides.
